Helping a Data Center Keep Operating

Highlights:

  • UPS Installation for Data Center
  • Maintain I& Repair Office HVAC Equipment

The Nexus Group has a UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply which required additional cooling equipment for redundancy. A UPS is a large battery charging apparatus that not only charges the backup batteries but cleans and conditions the power for the computers in the data center. The UPS generates a tremendous amount of heat and has to operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Kimbro Mechanical was contracted to provide and install the backup cooling unit. They were able to re-engineer an existing UPS cooling unit, install it, and make it fully operational without any interruption to the Data Center.

The Nexus Group also needed a heating and air conditioning company to maintain and repair their office HVAC equipment as well as the Data Center’s cooling equipment, which is separate and independent of the UPS system. Because of the prior UPS cooling system job, Kimbro Mechanical earned the trust of their customer and thus was awarded the contract to maintain the heating and cooling equipment for the entire building. No matter what the weather, Kimbro Mechanical keeps personnel and equipment inside the building comfortable and within design requirements. This enables the Nexus Group to keep their customers’ data infrastructure up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Helping Opry Mills Mall Recover from Hail Damage

Highlights:

  • Remediation of 200 air conditioning coils

Opry Mills® is a large retail shopping facility and has been a Kimbro Mechanical customer for several years. During the downtime after the 2010 Flood, there was a hail storm that caused damage to the roof-mounted air conditioners. Remediation involved removing the damaged coils, which were taken to a recycler; installation of new coils; and ensuring operation of the new coils met manufacturer’s specifications. Kimbro was contracted to repair almost 200 coils. Protective hail guards were installed on the new coils to safeguard against future hail damage. The consequence of not installing them was evident. The damage to the coils kept the equipment from transferring heat out of the building.

Kimbro Mechanical was awarded the planned maintenance of the equipment through a competitive bid process. Several factors were important in the award: price, past performance, capability, and ability to document unit performance once the repair was made.

Mills Corporation has strict requirements for working on the rubber membrane roof of the mall. The membrane can be easily punctured by tools or sharp objects, such as screws, dropped by careless workers. Damaging water leaks can then result. Qualified contractors must be bonded against such damage and there has never been a claim against Kimbro’s bond.
